We spend so much time in the Appalachian Mountains every year since we own a tiny home in Blairsville Georgia.  The areas beauty and unique collection of entertaining experiences always blow our expectations.

Blairsville is wonderfully convenient to so many other small mountain towns it makes for a great spot to stay and really explore what the Blue Ridge Mountains have to offer.  I hope you can find something from this guide to experience when you visit.

Mercier Orchards

If there is one place we visit every time it’s always Mercier Orchards.  They are located in Blue Ridge Georgia about a 30 minute drive from Blairsville. Kids or no kids we have to stop and get our fried apple pies that are made fresh daily.  If the kids are with us we head out to pick some fresh seasonal fruit (apples or berries).  My favorite part about the orchards is their market.  You can find homemade jelly’s, jams, preserves  and all sorts of wonderful goodies.  Their Cinnamon Apple bread is a personal favorite.

Downtown Blue Ridge

Downtown Blue Ridge is is a was first settled in the 1800’s as a railroad stop. Downtown features  the Historic Blue Ridge Railway starting at the historic depot in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia, riders take a four-hour, 26-mile round trip journey along the Toccoa River through the North Georgia countryside. Downtown Blue Ride also offers  eclectic variety of shops and art galleries, restaurants and breweries.  The area is extremely dog and child friendly with a beautiful park area to just sit and relax for awhile after shopping.  If your looking for more adventure Blue Ridge is the place to find it with waterfall hikes, kayaking, trout fishing , zip-lining and so much more.

Downtown Blairsville

We spend a lot of our time in downtown Blairsville, not just because it’s super close to where we are staying but there is always some event going on in the square.  We have quite a few places we always have to check off on our list in Blairsville.  Breakfast at The Hole in the Wall Cafe and lunch or breakfast at The Sawmill Place.  For dinner stopping in at the Wine Shoppe for a bottle of wine to take next door to our favorite Italian restaurant Michaelee’s Italian Life Cafe.

There is just so much to do in the mountains with several towns only a 30 minute drive away.  While BlueRidge and Blairsville are our favorites there are lots of others.  Murphy NC also offers some great shopping and a Casino.  Hiawassee GA  has a huge lake where you can rent a boat and explore.  Helen GA is only a short drive but it might be the most beautiful drive we  have taken it also has lots of pull off points to take pictures or go hiking.  In Helen you find a quaint German town with lots of activities for children.   I’m always excited for our trips to see what town we will discover next.
